We started this practice because we kept watching family-owned businesses close in our own neighborhood — and because every weekend looking for places to take our kids reminded us how much the right ones matter to a town.

Who we are

The people behind the work.

We're Gretchen and Chris — a husband-and-wife team, two designers, and parents to kids growing up in the Hill Country. We work with local businesses because we live in their neighborhoods and shop on their streets.

Gretchen Eddy

Co-founder · Designer · Mom

Years inside one of the world's largest design firms, working on projects most local businesses will never touch. She brings that experience down to street level — and the trained eye for the details that turn a space into a place worth lingering in.

Chris Eddy

Co-founder · Strategist · Dad

Product designer and entrepreneur with a long-running interest in the difference between a place you visit once and a place you return to. Brings the playbook and the spreadsheet — and weekends spent dragging the family across the Hill Country looking for the next worthwhile stop.

Why we do this

For the places that make a neighborhood feel like a neighborhood.

As our family grew, we started looking for short escapes from the house — places to take the kids, slow afternoons, weekend outings that didn't require a long drive. Some Hill Country spots absolutely nailed it. The rest, by contrast, made it obvious how much was being left on the table.

We watched independent businesses close, replaced by chains. We watched others — sometimes just down the street — fill up every weekend with the same families we kept running into ourselves, plus a steady stream of new ones their friends had told. The difference, almost always, was an experience worth talking about.

So we built this practice for our neighbors. The ones whose businesses we already shop. The ones whose patios we already gather on. The ones whose Saturday mornings we already spend at.
